In the vibrant haven of Camp Danielle, Amelia continues to keep us on our toes. Amelia has a strong sense of self and is an orangutan who knows what she wants. According to the dedicated Orangutan Care Centre and Quarantine (OCCQ) staff, Amelia remains her spirited self, finding immense joy in the two playgrounds available to her. Rainy season antics have taken over, with Amelia relishing the opportunity to splash around in the water surrounding the camp. Amelia has even taken to exploring the forest around her and reaching new heights, both figuratively and literally. Camp Danielle caregivers, Ibu Epok and Ibu Ombeng, share endearing tales of Amelia’s treetop adventures. Her confident ascent up into the trees is followed by the orangutan equivalent of a list of demands before she will descend.

Once up in the branches, this bold orangutan insists on a royal descent, to be carried back to her sleeping enclosure only by the nurturing hands of her two preferred caregivers; nobody else makes the cut.

Amelia’s charming idiosyncrasies include a penchant for playing with the hair of her caregivers. Amelia shows a fascination with hair ties and a love of hats. This lovable orangutan’s taste buds also remain diverse, as she eagerly enjoys all fruits that come her way. Always on the lookout for new faces and situations, Amelia approaches each encounter with curiosity. She makes her interactions entertaining and educational both for her and her caregivers. While Amelia enjoys making new acquaintances, her heart truly lies in the company of old friends, especially her fellow orangutans like the playful Crystal and her two caregivers.

The highlight of Amelia’s day, however, are undoubtedly the playgrounds. She revels in the joy of play. As we continue to witness Amelia’s energy, exuberance, and charming antics, it’s clear that her journey at the Care Centre is filled with learning and growth.
