Since her arrival in late 2016 at Camp Danielle, OFI’s orangutan nursery, easy going Holland has won the hearts of the OFI caregivers. There is something about her soulful eyes and quiet charm that everyone finds captivating. She is particularly adorable, and despite the tragedies of her past, Holland has the good fortune of being a clever and confident orangutan.

Holland had a rough start: the loss of her mother and the burns on her hand on arrival at OFI tell us of her tragic past. We cannot know for sure what happened, but it appears she was captured, and her mother killed in a fire. She arrived at our Care Centre an orphan, but she found a loving surrogate human mother, who cares for Holland as if she were her own child. This maternal connection is very important to orphaned orangutans, who crave the affection and attention of their mother until they reach adolescence.

Sweet Holland is a bundle of energy and joy. If she isn’t atop the tallest tree, she is down inspecting the ground finding insects and worms. She wanders around the playground finding wonder in every nook and cranny, sniffing each leaf and leaving no stone unturned. She gleefully splashes and plays in pools of water in the swamp forest. One of her favourite things is to share the sloppy mud. Holland takes great delight in smearing great big handfuls of mud all over her caregiver Ibu Anting’s legs!

FOSTER AN ORANGUTAN

  • By becoming an Orangutan Foster Parent, you will help care for the displaced and orphaned orangutans at the OFI Care Centre and Quarantine (OCCQ) facility, during their rehabilitation back to the wild.
  • As a Foster Parent you will contribute to providing the medical, dietary and emotional care that the orangutans need to thrive.
  • Standard Foster Kits are $100.00 each. Please add $15.00 postage if you would like your standard foster kit & 6-monthly updates posted to you. Please note – postal kits are only available within Australia.
  • Each Foster Kit includes an electronic kit about your orangutan including biographical information, a frameable certificate, photos and updates on their progress every six months.
  • Deluxe Foster Kit includes the standard Foster kit plus an Orangutan Plush Soft Toy and postage/handling
