Handsome Charlie is a sociable and outgoing orangutan infant who tends to charm everyone he meets. Charlie has a natural charisma and is often the instigator of games or play fighting with his peers. Charlie also loves investigating pockets. If there is a treat hidden in a caregiver’s pocket, you can bet that Charlie will be the first to try to find it! Charlie enjoys playing on the forest floor with his friends, rolling around and chasing one other. Yet recently he has begun to spend more time in the trees as his caregivers have gently encouraged him to climb more. Up in the canopy Charlie is learning from his peers the best leaves to eat and how to make a nest. Even in the tree tops, Charlie still loves playing games with his friends. Often Charlie can be seen with Ryan and Tommy, chasing one other through the canopy.
He might often be in the thick of the action, but Charlie is still an infant and relishes time with his caregivers. When not play fighting with his friends in the forest, Charlie can be found sitting next to his caregivers. Charlie is inquisitive by nature and loves to watch what his caregivers are doing, peering intently over their shoulders. His curiosity extends to his infant orangutan friends. If one of them is digging in the dirt, Charlie wants to join in and see what he (his friends tend to be male) is doing. Charlie also is cheeky and plays pranks on his caregivers. On one occasion Charlie climbed into the fork of a tree directly above his caregivers, and began pushing dirt down on their heads. But his caregivers forgave him instantly when he climbed down and stared into their faces with his big brown eyes, almost as if asking for forgiveness. Then he was off once again, tumbling with his friends.
Charlie is gaining in confidence. We cannot wait to see the new skills that Charlie learns in the forest as he clambers around in the trees with his pals!
