Amelia continues to keep us on our toes with her playful antics and razor-sharp mind. She remains happily settled in Camp Danielle alongside her “gang” – Royal, Doris, Holland, and Proudfoot, and is always good-natured with them.
Amelia’s forest time usually starts with a confident stroll across the tyre bridge, inspecting both playgrounds like a warden. She still prefers to spend most of her time playing in the playground area, rarely venturing far from her caregivers. She loves to bother the caregivers – always in good fun, of course. The caregivers have quite a few stories about Amelia’s unique and idiosyncratic personality. She has her preferred staff members and will make it known if she is not amused with any of them. During enclosure cleaning, Amelia might even throw fruit at her caregivers – a true prankster! We don’t know whether this tossing of fruit is a mark of affection or annoyance. Perhaps her most famous quirk is her absolute aversion to baths; whenever her caregivers try to bathe her, Amelia scurries off and cleverly hides in a blue barrel.
Despite these playful antics, we’ve seen Amelia develop and mature. She’s become incredibly adept at opening her enrichment parcels, meticulously unwrapping the vines holding the parcels together and peeling them open, so they look like flowers in blossom. She then dives her head and long arms inside the parcels like a bee searching for pollen. Amelia isn’t one to show off but displays a quiet intelligence, showcased when she sits contemplatively and presses her fingertips into a steeple.
Amelia seems calmer and more settled these days. This is a joy to see, especially given the traumatic start she had in life. We frequently see her as she is being carried on her caregiver’s back, burying her chin into the caregiver’s shoulder, a clear sign of the security and warmth she feels. Amelia is well taken care of, and we thank you, her foster parents, for your ongoing care and support.
