We’re thrilled to share the latest on our lovely Crystal, who continues to grow in confidence and personality. We’re sure you’ll be delighted to hear that she’s been enjoying her forest releases at the infant camp, Camp Danielle, and sharing her enclosure with her friend Vida.
Crystal is wonderfully active and playful and loves to catch the attention of her caregivers, reminding them that she is the centre of their world. One time Crystal pulled a banana leaf from the tree and wrapped it around her in a fashionable display. She looked incredibly important with it around her head like a Tudor neck ruff. She then pulled it further around her until it resembled a green pashmina. Crystal is forest chic! We’re pleased to report that she is consistently well-behaved with caregivers who say she is always a joy to be around. She also loves to climb high and is often seen engaging in lively play with her friends in the playground.
Crystal is a sensitive soul. She truly dislikes being disciplined harshly or hearing loud voices, or indeed loud noises. And she’s quite intimidated by bigger orangutans, especially those from the nearby camps who sometimes come for a visit. In these times she seeks the comfort of her caregivers for security and protection. However, Crystal’s determination shines through in everything she does. She pulls peanuts easily out of puzzle enrichments and loves to experience the world using any of her senses whether touch, smell, or taste.
She’s definitely growing, with a cute little belly, and is always eager to explore the undergrowth. Her determination while climbing trees is remarkable, and she’s full of energy and lust for life. Crystal has a long way to go yet but her sensitivity, mindfulness and curiosity will ensure she makes good decisions, and make us all proud, when she goes back to the wild.
