We are ecstatic to update you on Amelia’s progress. It has been a delight to watch her blossom over the last 6 months. She has grown much more comfortable in her surroundings at Camp Danielle. She has ensured that the label of “shrinking violet” is not applicable to her anymore. No longer does she hang at the fringes or hover at the back of the sleeping enclosure as her peers rush off into the forest school. Now more often than not, Amelia leaves her peers eating her dust as she cruises out to the playground in the morning. Amelia doesn’t hurry herself though. She is calm and considerate when planning her next move. She will stand on her hind legs and peer around to see what is going on around her.

Amelia may present herself as a lady, but that doesn’t mean she is above plonking herself down in a deep pool of muddy sludge, which become ever more frequent during the rainy season. Amelia covers herself from head to toe as she practices sculpting and creating her own modern art that would make Jackson Pollock jealous. The mud only enhances the fact her hair is much more voluminous now. Her caregivers are kept busy as they strive to clean it! Her own hair doesn’t seem to be enough for her either, as she has taken to grabbing on to her caregiver’s hair and tugging at it, all in the spirit of fun, obviously.

Amelia loves affection… especially receiving it. Nothing beats a good belly tickle. Amelia will scrunch her shoulders up in delight as a bashful smile plays across her lips. Speaking of her belly, Amelia has earned herself the affectionate description of “gemuk” (Indonesian for “fat” often used as a compliment). Compared with how she was upon first arriving at the Care Centre, this can only be a good thing. Amelia was very skinny when she first arrived. Like an army that marches on its stomach Amelia is a trooper when it comes to meal time, gorging herself on whatever is on offer. She ensures she is at the front of the queue at meal times and isn’t too shy to reach out with a requesting hand for more.

It is a joy to watch Amelia as she continues making progress. We are all passengers on board the Amelia Express, which shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. Make sure you hold on for her next exciting update!
