The last six months have seen Carmen build upon her previous skills and continue to grow and learn more about herself. A vibrant and curious orangutan, Carmen enchants us with her beauty and energetic spirit. With her exquisite appearance and a preference for tidiness, Carmen is always a joy to behold. She delights in playing in the playgrounds, where she can express her lively nature and engage in interactive activities.

While Carmen values her independence and often prefers solitude, she has recently surprised us by venturing into new territory. She has discovered the thrill of playing in the swamp, embracing the muddy adventures that await her. This shows a growing sense of curiosity and a willingness to explore beyond her comfort zone. With determination and perseverance, she has learned to ascend, both literally and figuratively, to great heights, gaining access to a whole new world above the forest floor. This skill not only provides Carmen with a unique perspective but also acts as a stepping stone towards independence.

Our intelligent and resourceful Carmen has also started honing her foraging skills. She has learned to find and enjoy the fruits and young leaves of the forest, expanding her dietary repertoire. It is thrilling to witness her acquire important knowledge about surviving in her natural habitat. Just like her wild counterparts, Carmen is also mastering the art of nest-making. She diligently practices and perfects her technique, aiming to create comfortable and secure shelters high up in the trees. Her ability to construct nests in tall and sizable trees showcases her skills and adaptability.

Although Carmen’s explorations have expanded her horizons, it is important to ensure safety during her excursions. To facilitate her forest visits, she is lovingly carried by her foster mother or other caregivers into the forest, providing her with the support she needs. Carmen’s journey is an educational experience for all of us. As we witness her developing independence, courage, and knowledge about her natural environment, we are reminded of the incredible resilience and adaptability of orangutans. We are committed to nurturing Carmen’s growth and providing her with the care and learning opportunities she needs to thrive in the wild.
