Amelia continues to be her lively and entertaining self at Camp Danielle, keeping both her caregivers and friends amused with her strong personality and her high-energy antics such as swinging upside down. She is a pretty orangutan whose beauty is enhanced paradoxically both by her gentle gaze and outgoing character. During her Forest School releases, she remains very active, especially around the playground which she considers her domain. Recently, Amelia received treatment for a toothache, so her caregivers are keeping a close eye on her comfort and recovery. She has been enjoying softer foods such as fruit and yoghurt, along with her favourite enrichment activities. These include opening parcels and rotten logs where she loves searching for ants. Despite her dental discomfort, Amelia’s energy levels remain high.

Amelia is a playful and mischievous orangutan who spends much time with her friends, Doris, Royal, Proudfoot, and Holland. She is particularly close to Royal, and the two are often seen engaging in hijinks together. Amelia also enjoys interacting with the caregivers. She likes to poke or gently pull at them and clearly has her favourites among them. She is known for her antics in their presence, including diving into their laps, grabbing hats, and tying pieces of rattan together, all of which show her clever and curious nature.

True to form, Amelia exhibits very clear preferences in all her activities. She doesn’t like playing on the ground, avoids mud, and is not a fan of bathing or getting dirty. She also has a habit of spitting, both inside and outside her sleeping enclosure, something her caregivers know very well!  Although Amelia has taken to exploring the world around her, she is still reluctant to go too far. In fact, she usually needs plenty of encouragement to venture into the forest. We hope that as time goes by, these forest trips will grow more frequent. For now, the playground remains her favourite place to play. It is the place where she clearly feels most comfortable.

Amelia’s surrogate mother, Ibu Epok, has recently moved to a new location in the Care Centre. The wider Camp Danielle team have seamlessly stepped in to give Amelia plenty of attention and support. Amelia remains a spirited, confident young orangutan with a big personality. She never fails to keep us occupied!  We thank her foster parents whose support and concern have allowed her to come this far in her life journey back to the wild. We remain very grateful and look forward to letting you know about her future developments!
