Kristin Steele is a lively and independent young orangutan. She has her own enclosure and remains healthy, with a big appetite and a love for all soft fruit, her current favourite being mango. She enjoys a full day of activity, spending time in both the playground and the small forest. She clearly prefers the forest and heads straight for the trees whenever she is released. This bodes well for the future as being arboreal is a key feature of orangutan survival in the wild. When Kristin fixes her gaze on something, there is no persuading her otherwise. It is a pleasure to watch her audacity in the trees.
She is a pretty girl like most orangutan female youngsters, but it is her vivaciousness and energy that makes her such an attractive personality. She is very active and enjoys climbing, often scaling single trees with confidence. The taller the better! Despite being the smallest orangutan at Camp Danielle, she interacts freely with the larger infants, including Koling, Jojo, Giselle, Nani, and Sugar, and is frequently seen playing with her best friend Miki, whose enclosure is nearby. She is gentle with her friends and enjoys spending time in their company. A social orangutan as is typical of her age, she does become upset if left alone too long in her sleeping enclosure.
Kristin Steele is playful, attentive, and brave, showing curiosity and energy in all her activities. As she climbs very high in the canopy, it can sometimes be tricky for her caregivers to persuade her to come down to the forest floor so they can bring her back to camp. She will usually come down if tempted with a bottle of milk. Her surrogate mothers, Ibu Eni and Ibu Enang, continue to provide support and guidance, helping her navigate both forest play and social interactions.
Though small, Kristin is fearless and confident in her movements. There is a fire within her that burns bright, a fire that energises and urges her to take advantage of every waking moment. She loves to interact with larger orangutans, playfully exploring and climbing with her friends, and fully enjoys her daily forest adventures. Her caregivers delight in watching her grow into such a spirited, clever, and independent young orangutan. They enjoy being with her!
Little Kristin Steele is a joy for all who know her. It is your love, support, and concern as a foster parent that allows this small orphan a life in the forest where she was born and so brutally torn from her mother who was probably killed. We hope that when the time comes, she will successfully return to the wild and claim the life that is rightfully hers. It is your help and support that makes this hope possible. Our gratitude to you is boundless.
