The past six months have seen some big changes for Kobe! Along with her friends Judy, Ulexa, and Bimbing, Kobe has recently moved to a different camp at the Orangutan Care Centre and Quarantine (OCCQ). She now resides at Pondok Cempedak. Kobe has approached this change in circumstance with her usual positive can-do attitude. An added bonus is a new area of the forest for her to get to know. No sooner had Kobe moved into the new camp, she was out into forest school and finding a new place to call home. Indeed, for Kobe home is wherever she hangs one of her four hands. Orangutans in the wild usually construct a new sleeping nest every night. Kobe explores new areas of the forest and does just that! She finds a tall tree, constructs a nest and stays in the Learning Forest overnight.

Often striking out on her own, nothing seems to phase this intrepid adventurer. Kobe bounces around the forest like a pinball, full of energy and constantly on the move. She only has one setting: go! Her caregivers are constantly amazed by her fearless spirit and her ability to find joy in every aspect of her environment. She approaches life, exploration, climbing, and enrichment with reckless abandon. A forest flower commands as much attention as a carefully concealed peanut.

After a full day of excitement, Kobe ends her day in style with her very own all-you-can-eat buffet. One of her favourite treats is a refreshing young coconut, which never fails to hit the spot. With a deftness that showcases her remarkable strength and skill, Kobe grabs the coconut with her feet and begins to rip off the outer green shell.

Suddenly, Kobe is distracted by the discovery of a termite nest in the ground nearby. Completely forgetting about the coconut, she focuses all her attention on working on the termite nest, demonstrating her natural foraging instincts. Before long, it’s back to the coconut. She bangs it on the ground to crack it open and access the juice inside, enjoying every last drop. We look forward to sharing more of her adventures with you in the future.
