Six months fly by when you’re having fun. Jeffrey Jr is not one to get bored, always entertaining himself and keeping himself occupied. He has definitely filled out and grown bigger. It’s no surprise, as he is an opportunistic feeder and won’t turn anything down. That said though, he is still our little Jeffrey Jr! Among the changes, Jeffrey Jr has moved into his own new spacious enclosure, further demonstrating his growth and independence. He’s settling in beautifully, and while he is currently alone in his new space, he certainly doesn’t lack for activity, keeping himself busy by literally hanging and swinging around. His excitement reaches fever pitch when it’s time for Forest School, pushing the door open when it’s time to go. For his caregiver, Ibu Eny, carrying Jeffrey Jr is also a work-out. He almost dwarfs her as he clings to her front like a large limpet. Jeffrey Jr doesn’t like to be carried on his caregiver’s back, insisting on being carried on the caregiver’s front. The “jungle gym” isn’t just for orangutans but humans too!

Jeffrey Jr is truly in his element out in the forest. He is super active, journeying far and climbing high, often scaling the tallest trees with impressive agility. He has also formed a lovely bond with orangutan Ucok. They often venture far together, exploring every nook and cranny of the forest. Livewire Jeffrey Jr can be happily picking peanuts out of puzzle enrichment one minute and then dashing up a tree at a moment’s notice. He explores and forages for himself, often tracking down one of his favourite snacks – termite nests. He continues to practice nest making on the ground too, pulling twigs, branches and leaves into a bunch in front of him. His natural instincts will develop and guide him to take his nest into the trees soon enough.

Thank you for being such a crucial part of Jeffrey Junior’s continuing development!
