Jeffrey Junior is moving on up!
Jeffrey Junior continues to grow into a strong, confident young orangutan and is now reaching an important milestone in his rehabilitation journey. He is currently in his own sleeping enclosure, reflecting just how big and powerful he has become! It feels like only yesterday that a small, wide-eyed, vulnerable orangutan infant arrived at the OFI Care Centre. Now this infant has outgrown practically all of his peers at Camp Danielle. Jeffrey Junior has always made the best of any situation. His constant confidence is impressive.
Jeffrey Junior is selective about whom he spends his time with. He is choosy with staff and prefers to stick with caregivers he knows well. Nowadays his main caregiver is Pak Hepi, with whom he shares a strong bond. As always, “it takes a village,” and the wider Camp Danielle team helps support his daily care. Jeffrey Junior is not backward about coming forward, happily holding out his hand when he wants something. He continues to develop the essential life skills of an orangutan learning to forage and take care of himself.
His strength and independence mean that he has outgrown Camp Danielle. Jeffrey Junior will soon need to move to another camp to begin the next stage of his rehabilitation. Soon it will be difficult to “handle” him on an intimate basis. For this reason, sadly, he is being retired from the foster program. We would like to limit close interactions and handle him on a less regular basis, while still allowing him to go into the forest to continue activities and skill development. Jeffrey Junior’s journey so far has been remarkable. We are incredibly proud of the progress he has made as he prepares for this exciting next chapter. We thank his devoted caregivers who will continue their interactions with Jeffrey Junior under new circumstances.
We are very grateful to you, Jeffrey Junior’s foster parents, for supporting him and helping to make this all possible. Thank you so much! If orangutans could talk, Jeffrey Junior would also thank you from the bottom of his orange heart.
